Custom 3D printed and laser engraved pieces are more durable than people expect, but a little care goes a long way toward keeping them looking like the day they arrived. Here’s what we tell every customer who asks.
Keep It Out of Direct, Prolonged Sunlight
Most 3D printed materials can fade or slightly warp with extended direct sun exposure, especially in a hot car or a sunny windowsill over months. A piece sitting on a desk or shelf out of direct light will hold its color and shape far longer than one baking in a window all day.
Dust with a Dry or Slightly Damp Cloth
For everyday cleaning, a dry microfiber cloth or one lightly dampened with water is all you need. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or solvents — they can dull the surface finish or, on engraved pieces, affect the contrast of the engraving itself.
Lithophanes Love Consistent Light
If you have a lithophane, the image only really comes alive with a light source behind it. An LED tea light or a small display stand with backlighting works best — steady, even light rather than something flickering or too warm-toned, which can wash out the detail.
Handle Engraved Pieces by the Edges
For laser engraved items, try to handle them by the edges rather than pressing directly on the engraved surface, especially soon after you receive them. This keeps oils and fingerprints from settling into the fine detail lines.
Watch for Temperature Swings
Repeated cycles of hot and cold (like a piece living in a car, or right next to a heating vent) can cause slight warping over time in certain print materials. Room temperature, stable environments are best for long-term display pieces.
If Something’s Not Right
If a piece arrives damaged or isn’t holding up the way it should, don’t hesitate to reach out through our Contact page. We stand behind what we make, and our Refund & Returns Policy covers exactly what to expect if something needs to be addressed.
Treat your piece like the handmade item it is, and it’ll hold up for years. If you’re not sure how to care for something specific you ordered, just ask — we’re happy to walk you through it.
